#ThatWasDifferent: town board gets art appreciation lesson— and a primer on social media By Denise Civiletti - May 16, 2014, 12:18 pm

Artist Kristina Howard paints colorful patterns and local seascapes on horseshoe crab shells in bright enamels. That was something board members had no trouble relating to, demonstrating, as the supervisor observed, the power of a “shiny object” over board members — who immediately saw a business opportunity for the young painter and offered suggestions on how she might expedite her painstaking and time-consuming production process and market her hand-painted shells.

“I bet these would fetch a pretty penny,” Walter told her.
